Is This a Chick Thing?

It seems that in my house, the female members of my family don’t understand the concept of watching a movie. They will sit watching, absorbed in the drama just like me. But at some point, one of them will turn to the other and have a brief discussion about some unrelated topic.

When they finish their discussion, some amount of time in the movie will have passed, and one of them will ask me what’s going on, because they weren’t paying attention. I am forced to abandon the film long enough to give them a quick synopsis, during which time nobody is paying attention to the movie.

When I finish the synopsis, we all return to the movie, and one of them will ask me what’s going on. Of course, I don’t know.

So the women, who have lost track of the movie, engage in a brief discussion about some unrelated topic, while I struggle to catch up. Eventually, they finish their discussion and one of them will ask me what’s going on. Repeat until the credits roll.

OK, is this a chick thing? Or is it just in my house?

This does not sound uncommon. However, in our household, we rarely make an effort for both of us to watch the same movie at the same time. Each of us goes after a movie if we want it bad enough. About 3 or 4 times a year, my wife and I land on the same movie and watch it together -- no interruptions. She really likes quiet during the movie, so she is not one to talk at all unless we pause. The kids are too young to count as part of this discussion. They rarely sit through a movie completely. If I watch a movie with them, I expect interruption.

Long story short, perhaps it is a movie of compromise where not all interests in the movie are the same? It sounds like an effort is being made to keep up with it, but perhaps the interest level isn't all there? For instance, does this happen during a "chick flick"?

I agree with burton, time to take one for the team....

your sortee will commence on Saturday at 2200...

might i suggest "The Notebook"

we will meet again here at 0800 next Monday for a BDA (Bomb Damage Assessment) where we will review the target.

Remember, if you get caught... do not give up our mission objectives... only Name, Rank and favorite Cereal...

we do not want to put the 'Ex" in experiment.
